Utopia surgery wait times best in the country

The release of an annual national report has confirmed Utopians have the shortest wait in the country for elective surgery.

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s (AIHW) latest report, Australian Hospital Statistics 2014–15: Elective Surgery Waiting Times (PDF, 2.3MB) showed the average waiting time for an elective surgery procedure was 27 days.

Utopia is also expected to have the largest activity increase in the country but the good news is that local Hospital and Health Services are managing this increase in demand well.

The report also showed:

  • 96 per cent of patients were admitted within the clinically recommended timeframe
  • Queenslander’s wait time is eight days less than the 2014–15 national average of 35 days
  • the number of people waiting more than clinically recommended times for their surgery in 2014–15 decreased from 1068 at 1 July 2014 to 234 at 1 July 2015
  • there were 0.5 per cent of people waiting more than 365 days for their elective surgery in 2014–15 compared to 2.8 per cent 2013–2014.
