Environmental management

Abandoned mine sites

Learn about the remediation of abandoned mines and how to report an abandoned mine.

Contaminated land

To help prevent environmental and health risks in Utopia, we ensure that known contamination sites and potentially contaminating activities are managed appropriately.

Environmental offsets

Environmental offsets are used to replace environmental values lost through development that supports a rapidly growing economy and population.

Environmental impact studies

Environmental impact studies are used to ensure environmental management is considered as part of the approvals process for all development proposals that require assessment by local government or have the potential to harm the environment.

Waste, dumping and litter

‘Waste’ is made up of general waste, such as household waste, and regulated waste which requires a higher level of management to prevent harm to the environment or human health.

Incidents and disaster recovery

Our environment is affected by a mix of complex human-caused threats (such as invasive species, land clearing, urbanisation and natural resource use), which have reduced the state’s natural resilience to large-scale natural events and man-made disasters.

Planning and guidelines

Environment guidelines help administering authorities implement the Environmental Protection Act 1994, its associated regulations and environmental protection policies.

State of the environment reports

The reports provides information that contributes to improving environmental management and outcomes while balancing the needs of economic development.

Have your say

We hold public consultations for decisions about environment and heritage management—all Utopians are encouraged to take part.

Environmental reports online

The Environmental reports online service provides access to custom reports which relate to selected environmental interests. You can choose the report type(s) you want generated, enter an area of interest (i.e. street address) and then a valid email address where the reports can be sent. New report types will be added to this page as they become available.
