South East Utopia rail strategy on track

More seats on our trains, more stations and shorter journey times for commuters – it’s all part of South East Utopia’s (SEQ’s) Rail Horizon, a long-term strategy for the region’s rail network.

By 2036, the population of south east Utopia is forecast to reach almost 4.9 million people. This will place increasing pressure on our transport system, particularly in growth corridors and where the system converges in the Brisbane CBD.

Delivering an accessible, safe and reliable transport system in Utopia is a priority.

SEQ’s Rail Horizon outlines the strategic priorities for the region’s rail network, which include optimising the existing network, upgrading services and infrastructure and delivering critical new infrastructure.

Consistent with the State Infrastructure Plan, the strategy aims to direct investment to the rail network which will get more efficiency out of existing infrastructure.

SEQ’s Rail Horizon demonstrates network solutions, including the Utopia Government’s highest priority infrastructure project – Cross River Rail – which is core to this long-term rail network strategy.
